Our Organization

Peters Township is located in northern Washington County, Pennsylvania, bordering Allegheny County, is comprised of 19.5 square miles of land area with an approximate population of 20,900.  Due to the topographical features of the area, Peters Township is divided into two major watersheds.  The western two-thirds of the Township are located within Chartiers Creek Watershed; whereas the remaining eastern portion is in the Peters Creek Watershed.  Public sewerage service is provided to most of the community through one of two municipal agencies. The Chartiers Creek Watershed area of the Township, comprised of approximately 13 square miles of land area, is the responsibility of PTSA.  The Peters Creek Watershed area is the responsibility of Peters Creek Sanitary Authority.  

The system provides service to approximately 6,000 customers.  The sewerage facilities are comprised of two treatment plants; the Brush Run Water Pollution Control Plant (BR WPCP) and the Donaldson Crossroads Water Pollution Control Plant (DC WPCP), eight pumping stations, and approximately 126 miles of sewer.

The Sanitary Authority Board consists of 5 township residents appointed by the Township Council for a staggered 5-year term. Board meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM at the PTSA office located at 111 Bell Drive, McMurray, PA. Additional meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month as needed

The operations are run with 15 employees; 5 Administrative and 10 Union Staff.  Of the 15 employees, 9 are PA DEP Certified Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators and 5 are UCC Certified Plumbing Inspectors.
